Flights are cancelled for 3 days

As many as 118 flights scheduled to flights from Pokhara in the last three days were cancelled due to bad weather. The unfavorable weather also affected some flights from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Most passengers have been opting to travel by buses and cars to reach their destinations.Talking to Republica, Pokhara Airport Chief Pratap Babu Tiwari said that 118 flights scheduled to fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu, Jomsom and Manang have been cancelled in the last three days with only 2 flights to Kathmandu taking off on Friday.

Speaking to Republica, Tiwari said that 42 flights were cancelled on Saturday alone.The flights had to be cancelled due to consistent rain and fog and this has caused great inconvenience to the passengers,said Tiwari.The Station Manager of Agni Air Rijan Rijal shared that frequent cancellation of flights meant big loss for tourism industry.All the airlines have almost hundred percent booking as it is the peak tourist season, he said.But due to inclement weather condition, the passengers are forced to use other modes of travel,he added.

He informed that only some flights of Agni Airlines were scheduled to fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu on Thursday, Friday and Saturday respectively. However, all, except one flight on Friday, were cancelled. Tiwar said in the Pokhara-Kathmandu route, around 70 percent passengers were tourists.Similarly, a senior officer of Yeti Airways Harka Rawal said that on the third day since the flights began to get cancelled, the airport was almost vacant.The airport are no longer crowded like on the first and second day; the passengers are heading off to their destinations in buses and cars, he said. According to Rawal, there were regular daily flights of Yeti Airlines and Buddha from Pokhara to Kathmandu all of which had to be cancelled in the duration.

President of Nepal Association of Tours and Travel Agents (NATA) Om Prakash Pandey, said that the cancellation of flights was not a very big problem for the passengers as there were other options available for traveling to Kathamndu.The passengers can easily travel to Kathmandu or Jomsom by bus and cars,he said, adding that the passengers who had enough time could wait for the flights to operate from Pokhara.The bad weather particularly disappointed tourists who were there for sightseeing. They could not view Machhapuchchhre and Annapurna due to fog.
