Spirit will add daily nonstop service to five new cities from O’Hare International Airport, the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) said in a statement. Spirit will begin multiple daily flights to Boston, Dallas/Fort Worth, Detroit and New York/LaGuardia on Aug. 18, 2011, and daily service to Orlando on Nov. 10, 2011.

We commend Spirit Airlines for substantially increasing its U.S. travel destinations from O’Hare International Airport, said CDA Commissioner Rosemarie Andolino. This added service for the Chicago market reflects the steady increase in air travel demand and is an important part of Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s vision to bolster Chicago’s leading position in the global aviation system. This increase of service by Spirit Airlines is a result of the CDA’s ongoing efforts to accommodate airline growth in the Chicago market, according to the statement.
