As of November 5, Kenya Airways (KQ), the national carrier of Kenya, will be operating 10 daily flights to Mombasa with two dedicated Boeing 737-300 aircraft. The revamp of the route will include fares that begin at Kshs 7,999 inclusive of all taxes on the route.Kenya Airways Group managing director and CEO, Dr. Titus Naikuni, announced that an increase in passenger traffic on the Mombasa route has led to a need for greater capacity. KQ recently added two B737-300 aircraft in line with the company’s strategy to increase the level of efficiency on domestic and regional services by offering passengers more flight times through increased frequencies.Dr. Naikuni stressed that, The low introductory fares coupled with over 50 flights a week to Mombasa are evidence of our commitment to maintaining our market share on this Mombasa route. The expanded Mombasa route comes in the wake of an aggressive KQ expansion program that includes the ordering of two Embraer 190 aircraft expected to be delivered in early 2011. According to Dr. Naikuni, “Our main goal is to interconnect Africa and link the entire continent to the rest of the world.” The airline, which flies to 50 destinations worldwide, has plans to operate to Malindi early in December.
