The maintenance work on the main runway led to delay in flights by over 30 minutes on Tuesday. All the flights had to land and depart from the secondary runway 14/32, usually used for only departures, between 10 am and 4 pmon Tuesday.On an average, the delay was around 30 minutes, said an MIAL spokesperson. Strong winds also affected flight movements, an airport official said.

On Tuesday, airport officials were undertaking maintenance work to restore the disintegrated stretch around taxiway N-9. Over the last several months, only two taxiways have been available to airlines  N 9 and N-10. But as most airlines preferred N-9, the stretch around it had begun to wear off due to constant use. Airport officials said that this maintenance work was urgent to prevent further deterioration.Airport officials said although the runway was handed over to the Air traffic Control a little ahead of time, around 3.50 pm, the maintenance work could not be completed due to unfavourable weather conditions. The hot weather made it difficult to carry out the work, officials said.
