flights are going to become cashless cabins

American Airlines introduced cashless cabins on its domestic flights in June 2009, but is doing away with coins and paper going forward.

American Airlines is going to turn all its flights into cashless cabins. Starting Feb. 1, American Airlines will only accept credit and debit cards for purchases made in flight.

“The implementation of cashless cabins on select flights last summer has simplified the inflight transaction process for both customers and flight attendants,” said Lauri Curtis, American’s Vice President – Onboard Service. “For this reason, we look forward to going cashless onboard all American Airlines flights on Feb. 1.”

Flight attendants will use a small hand-held machine to run credit cards in-flight. American Eagle and AmericanConnection flights will continue to accept only cash for onboard purchases.
